The Facilities
The Alamodome boasts the very latest in dome engineering with column-free expanses, 425 video monitors and full accessibility for disabled visitors. It's a multipurpose facility that seats up to 65,000 and is expandable to 72,000-plus seats. The Dome is home to the world champion San Antonio Spurs, host facility of college football's Alamo Bowl and location for everything from concerts to trade shows.

Getting There
The Alamodome is situated just off Interstate 37, east of downtown; exit Durango Blvd /Alamodome. If lacking an automobile--no problem. Two VIA routes from downtown will drop you off a couple of blocks from the Alamodome: Route 26 stops on the Montana side and Route 28 on the Durango side. VIA Transit also offers Park and Ride options.

The Team
Named after the Congress Avenue Bats, the Austin Ice Bats have been a popular team since their beginning in 1996. Every year, the Travis County Expo Center mysteriously turns into the Bat Cave, home of this minor league hockey team.

At the Game or Not
If you can't make the game, you can always turn your radio dial to KJCE 1370-AM to listen. If you go to the game, depending on where you sit, you might want to bring binoculars. Don't bring noisemakers or laser pointers.

You Can Bet on It
When the lights of Las Vegas glow in your mind but are just too far away to see, bring your wallet and your best bets to Retama for live thoroughbred horse racing. Open daily for televised simulcast racing from other tracks across the country, the park accomodates wagering on races throughout the day.

Nighttime Is the Right Time
Of course, the best time to visit is on live race nights, when you can hang out on the ground level and watch the horses stampede across the finish line right before your eyes. The multi-level grandstand accommodates 20,000 visitors and includes food courts, the Terrace Dining Room restaurant and a sports bar.
